Paris, France – Elon Musk, the most powerful man on the planet, has just received a formal summons from French prosecutors. This is the second time he has been summoned to Paris to face preliminary criminal charges in a large-scale investigation targeting the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he owns.
According to a statement from the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office, Elon Musk was summoned as a key witness and could be considered a suspect in charges related to failing to control content, spreading misinformation, and violating anti-hate laws on the X platform. French prosecutors said they are expanding the investigation to include Musk’s personal role in managing and making decisions for the platform.
“I will not be silent” – Musk responds
Immediately after receiving the summons, Elon Musk posted on X a short but defiant message:
“I will go to France. I will not be silent in the face of the suppression of free speech. X is the platform of truth.”
The post quickly garnered tens of millions of interactions, shares, and debates. Many of Musk’s supporters argue this is “political persecution” from the French government, while critics say Musk “should be held accountable for the violent and hateful content” on X.
The legal battle escalates
This is not the first time Elon Musk has faced legal trouble in Europe. Previously, he has clashed with the EU over the Digital Services Act (DSA), and received heavy fines for failing to control content. This time, French prosecutors are directly targeting Musk with criminal charges – a far more serious level than previous administrative fines.
If convicted, Musk could face imprisonment or a ban on operating X in France – a major blow to his tech empire.
