Lewis Hamilton is one of the richest athletes in the world.
The longtime Formula 1 star, who drives for Ferrari after a lengthy tenure with Mercedes, is worth roughly $500 million. Hamilton, one of the highest-paid Formula 1 drivers in history, has several massive endorsement deals, as well.
However, the 41-year-old Formula 1 star has made it clear that he believes there should be a cap on wealth. It’s unclear if Hamilton is willing to give away a decent chunk of his wealth – or his girlfriend’s wealth (Kim Kardashian is worth more than $1 billion) – to make that happen.
Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, is likely bringing in more than $100 million per year at this point.
However, Hamilton told British author Jay Shetty that he believes there should be a “cap” on wealth.
“If you could create one law that everyone in the world had to follow,” Shetty asked. “What would it be?”
Hamilton wants to put a cap on wealth
Hamilton admits that he “struggles” with wealth.
“One of the things that I struggle with every day, and it’s just how life is, and it’s been this way for thousands of years, is that there is such a disparity between the wealthy and the poor,” he responded. “When you drive around LA there’s still so many people living on the streets.
“You shouldn’t be able to have billions, right, I think there should be a limit to how much you can have because there’s enough to go around to everyone. So, somehow create a law that creates more equality and equal access for everyone.”
Hamilton also lives in Monaco for much of the year, which helps him avoid making significant tax payments.
